Friends, I turned on the heating this week. I tried to avoid it for as long as possible, but when I caught myself thinking about sweater patterns for my cats, I decided the situation was no longer sustainable.
Some people sing about wanting to be woken up when September ends. I, on the other hand, would like to go to sleep at the end of September and only wake up once temperatures cross 22°C again.
But you can’t always get what you want, to quote another song. Except for you. You look like you want a bunch of diary comics, and a bunch of diary comics you shall get!
Monday

Even talking about my woes of if and how to see myself as an artist makes me feel a bit like a fraud. Imposter syndrome needs to be suppressed. When I allow myself to feel and behave like an artist, though, I get these little glimpses of something that somehow feels true. It’s great to be able to talk to Cecilia about these things. She has produced more art in the last couple of years than I have in my whole life of perhaps, sometimes, maybe considering myself an artist.
Tuesday

The fact that I’m even willing to regularly visit a hairdresser who doesn’t let me pay by card speaks volumes about the quality of Ramona’s work and her company. I genuinely like getting my hair cut by her and even actively look forward to it. My friendly-passive-aggressive habit of pointing out that this is literally the only thing in my life I still carry cash for hasn’t borne any fruit yet, unfortunately.
Wednesday

I love that technology can still excite me. I haven’t been this hyped for an Apple product in years, but the iPhone Duo looks so good, and the interfaces feel so well thought out. October can’t come soon enough!
Thursday

I love wearing my Apple Watch. Not only does it tell me that I apparently lost the ability to stay in Zone 2 while running, it also tracks everything else, lets me quickly set timers, pause my podcast without fishing my iPhone out of my pocket, and gives me glanceable information about my life.
Unfortunately, it looks like shit. That’s why I invested quite some money (€40) and bought this very pretty Casio watch. I love it! It’s shiny and has much more of a visual opinion than the Apple Watch, which has looked basically the same for the last decade.
Friday

If this comic diary sticks around for more than a year, you’ll eventually notice that I become full of self-pity every time summer comes to an end. I find it hard to accept that we’re in for half a year of cold and wet weather. I hate being cold. I’m also not particularly fond of the accompanying darkness. Fortunately, we’ve learned from past winters and are currently planning to spend some time somewhere with better weather this time around.
Saturday

Every single time I’m brave enough to go outside and draw or paint in public, something happens that lifts my mood. It’s not that I particularly yearn for contact with strangers, but whenever it happens, I end up feeling a little more connected to my surroundings.
I ended up talking to that woman and her husband for half an hour. At first, I thought they were tourists because that part of the city is mostly inhabited by them, but they had actually just bought a new camera and gone there to try it out. Very cute!
Sunday

Yet another run where I can hardly stay in Zone 2. I talked to my trainer, ChatGPT, about it, and apparently it might just be accumulated fatigue from training. It recommended taking a week off from pushing myself too hard. That might actually make sense, so I’ll report back on whether it helped.
Newsletter over already? I’m sorry. If only a week had more days, this could go on for longer. But for now, you’ll have to wait until next week. Life’s unfair, I know. You’ll get over it.
But seriously, thanks for reading! See you soon!
