Today, I somehow ended up getting a full facial treatment from an esthetician. That wasn’t my goal, but I booked it by accident and then decided to do it for the plot. Unfortunately, that plot will have to wait, because this week's autobiographical comics don’t include today’s events.
It was a nice experience, though, and I’d do it again if I ever felt the need to get a facial treatment. Which I haven’t, at any point in my life, and don’t expect to in the future. But you never know. I could get a stamp card and pay less than the €99 I had to leave there today if I went often enough. That won’t happen either, but it’s good to know.
Anyway! Here's this weeks comics!
Monday

Yet another entry in my ever-growing collection of weather-related comics. I’m pretty sure I drew a very similar one at the beginning of the year.
If I keep this up for another ten years, I might eventually be able to make a little “walking through time” flipbook out of all of them.
Tuesday

Turning 30 wasn’t actually an issue for me. 35 was much harder. Thirty still felt far enough away from 40 that I could basically consider myself the same age as I had been at the end of my twenties. But 35 feels like nearly 40, which isn’t that far away from 50, which means retirement is basically just 15 years away...
Anyway, we all know these “health age” measurements are basically bullshit. They’re trying to put a number on something that’s incredibly hard to measure. But an indication is still something to go by, and I’m happy that, at the very least, the indication isn’t telling me I’m much older than I actually am.
Wednesday

Will this be the year I buy myself a second or even third pair of workout clothes? Will it finally put an end to the constant juggling of my laundry schedule and workout plans? Stay tuned to find out!
I’m still practicing being a good traveler, and while actually being on vacation has gotten easier for me, booking one is still a nightmare. I’m in the very privileged position of being with someone who somehow enjoys planning trips, but a balanced relationship probably requires me to take the lead on that at some point.
But first I have to be anxious about this particular trip, because it’ll be our first vacation that requires a rental car, and I hate driving cars. Still, one must do what helps one grow, so I can’t just not do it because I’m afraid. I’ll persevere. Probably while gripping the steering wheel with both hands and staring straight ahead.
Thursday

I love that we both noticed the same thing and immediately wanted to share it with each other. It could hardly be a smaller moment, but maybe those are especially important to share, precisely because they can happen all the time.
If you reserve happiness and togetherness for the special occasions, you reduce everything in between to a waiting room. And life is far too long to spend most of it waiting for the highlights.
Deep, I know.
Friday

Could I force her to get up, and would she probably not mind all that much? Perhaps.
Is it more respectful to spend 45 minutes whispering to her that I really need to get up and do something, while secretly being very happy that this means I don’t have to get up and clean? Yes. Yes, it is.
Saturday

There’s this funny little dynamic between my father and me where we try to gauge whether the other person actually needs to go to the bathroom or is just trying to sneak off and pay for the meal. This time, I managed to beat him to it.
The waiter told me it’s the same with him and his father, and that he likes it because he sees it as a sign of love. That was cute.
Then he came back to the table with me to say goodbye to everyone and told us that he’ll soon be leaving Germany because he’s worried about where the country’s politics are heading.
The fact that he feels he has to do that was considerably less cute.
Sunday

I’ve never really swum before. I know how to swim, breaststroke only, but I’ve always used that skill exclusively to not drown, never to actually work out.
Last year, I went to an outdoor pool with Anna and swam a couple of laps for the first time ever. But this was my first proper “Let’s go to the Olympic-sized pool and do this as a sport!” kind of swim.
Anna does this all the time, but I chose running as my go-to workout, so this was completely new to me. And exciting! And, somewhat surprisingly, a lot of fun!
Later, we went to a flea market and I found this painting for just €20. It hangs in my hallway now.
What a day!
There you have it: seven new, original, handmade comics, from me to you. I hope you enjoyed them. If you didn’t, please write to your representative. They can try to stop me from making art by passing laws that make art illegal.
Cheers,
Marcel
