Hello friends,
If you’re into seeing cats in my comics, you’re in for a treat this week. Most of the comics feature at least one! It just so happened that this wasn’t planned as some kind of special theme week. But that would be a great idea for the future. Let me know if you come up with any good theme ideas!
But for now, let’s take a look at this week’s comics.
Monday
Dogs are easier than cats in this regard. I feel like their rules are more straightforward: throw the thing, the dog brings it back. Hide the thing, the dog finds it. Run after the dog, the dog runs after you. Cats have games too, but they’re so opaque. Sometimes I think Gigabyte wants me to chase her, but then she suddenly stops and just looks at me. Millimeter will literally bring me one of her toys, and when I try to play with her with it, she couldn’t care less. But it’s all good. We’re having fun!
Tuesday
I got a lot of comments on this comic telling me I apparently don’t understand that a series like Dungeon Crawler Carl has every right to be as long as it is. That the length of the story is the author’s choice. That if I can’t handle a long series, I should just stop reading books. That there are plenty of other series that are even longer.
Some people really can’t handle an opinion that isn’t completely black and white.
I enjoyed the DCC books. I also wish they’d wrap up sooner. Both things can be true at once, and that’s not a hard ambiguity for me to hold.
Anyway! I’m currently reading Julia Schnetzer’s Wenn Haie leuchten, and it’s great.
Wednesday
I like this one. The day had so many moments that could have become a comic, but I decided to focus on a tiny interaction that lasted no more than five seconds. Figuring out what to draw is, I think, my favourite part of the daily comic journaling process. It feels great to choose one aspect of my day to highlight.
Thursday
A recurring theme in my life: I don’t want to run becomes oh, running is great within the span of 10 minutes.
Friday
Yet another trip! The last couple of months have been full of travel. This time, we were invited to the wedding of some of Anna's oldest friends in her hometown. The north of Germany, where I'm from, doesn’t offer particularly diverse landscapes. A train ride through the south is far more interesting.
Saturday
Imagine inviting me to your wedding and all my comic journal shows of it is this self-involved bullshit. But I stand by that decision. The alternative would have been to try to capture the entire day of wedding-related activities and events, but... it’s a journal about my life, not other people’s weddings, if that makes sense. So capturing this little moment felt better than trying to create a proper representation of someone else’s day.
Sunday
It was such a relaxing day, and I was happy about it. The previous day had been taxing, so just hanging around, reading, painting, and snacking was exactly what I needed. Even though I underestimated the size of that sundae, I certainly didn’t complain, it was delicious.
